  • AZ Alkmaar

    | In 1967, Alkmaar’54 and FC Zaanstreek merged to form AZ’67. Thanks to the financial injections of the Molenaar brothers, the club, heralded a successful period, that reached great heights at the end of the 1970s.

After having taken the cup in 1978, AZ took the double in 1981, and one year later once again the KNVB cup. Also they debuted into European football in those glory days but than.. came the lean years. The once so successful AZ anonymously played its games in the Dutch Premier League and degradation (in 1988) was inevitable. In the First League, the club did not play a prominent role either, until businessman Dirk Scheringa became chairman. AZ won the First League in 1996, degraded again one year later, but in the next season returned to the Premier League under the management of Willem van Hanegem.

As from the year 2002, the club from Alkmaar was once again on its way up. The eloquent Co Adriaanse was hired to coach AZ in November 2002. In the spring of 2004, after 22 years, European football was secured through a 7-0 victory over RKC Waalwijk. The following season, AZ reached the semi-finals in the UEFA Cup and achieved a fantastic third place in the Dutch Premier League.

In the summer of 2005, Co Adriaanse left for the Portuguese top club FC Porto. Louis van Gaal, previously coach of Ajax, FC Barcelona and the Dutch National football team joined AZ and has been their coach up till now. In the season of 2006/2007, AZ moved into its new accommodation on the edge of the city of Alkmaar, the DSB Stadium. Maybe it was the new stadium but this season turned out to be a very successful one for AZ. Who was to be the winning team of the Dutch Premier League was not decided until the last match (AZ, Ajax or PSV). Unfortunately AZ did not succeed in winning this important game and reach 3rd place, honourably. But… they made up for this in 2008/2009, when AZ wins the Dutch Premier League!

    | ALKMAAR- AZ and Q have reached a 3-year agreement regarding the delivery of the team wear for both the official matches as well as the training outfits of the Dutch Champion. It’s not the first time, Q relates to the Football Club from Alkmaar. Between 2006 and 2008, Q was also the official team wear supplier of AZ.

Challenger | The choice to re-unite again is a very logical one for both Q as well as AZ. Especially their mutual core values like a no-nonsense mentality and striving for the highest possible, are examples that both parties share a common goal.

When AZ present themselves as challengers of the traditional top three in the competition, Q does the same with the ‘global brands’. By identifying themselves with teams and persons that share their mentality and ambitions.
Team wear | An important aspect of the team wear of AZ for coming season, is its authenticity. The white sleeve of the ‘home’ shirts is a element from AZ’s team wear from the past. While the blocked partition is based on a collection from Q from the seventies. It goes without saying that the team wear meets the requirements needed for top-level performances in football.
About Q | Q was founded in Hengelo (OV) in 1905. Many well-known Dutch athletes successfully skated, boxed or played their football matches in apparel from Q. Regarding football, the brand has been the team wear supplier for NAC Breda, Sparta, Vitesse and AZ. The brand is a symbol for Dutch heritage and is ready to conquer Europe with AZ.
